Meet Buroo, Gower's very own Puffin!
When Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA announced the 2023 Puffin Parade, we were very keen to get involved, given that we’re a local company with clients in both Guernsey and Alderney.
At less than 30cm in height the Atlantic Puffin lives out at sea for much of its life, but returns to the Bailiwick to breed each spring, mainly around Herm & Burhou (a small un-inhabited island south-west of Alderney). With this in mind, we decided to name our Puffin ‘Buroo’, a playful version of the latter.
We then teamed up with the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association and GreenAcres Guernsey, whose members and carers decorated Buroo for us. Their inspiration was sea life in the Bailiwick and their memories of trips to local beaches when they were younger. The decoration took place every Friday for six weeks as they took to their brushes to create ideas of how we could capture the essence of having fun at the beach. For each of the weekly sessions, different members of the Gower team joined in to make the whole project a fun, collaborative experience.
Our boy Buroo is now in place at our Weighbridge House offices in St. Peter Port. The Puffin Parade treasure hunt is now underway, and you can download the app ‘Turfhunt’ (search for Puffin Parade under Treasure Hunts) and check off each Puffin as you find them. You’ll also find a useful map of the Puffins here PUFFIN MAP – The Guernsey Puffin Parade.
Buroo loves a selfie, so please tag us on Facebook @Gower, or Instagram @Gowerguernsey, he looks forward to seeing you soon!
